BSES is now an ISP too
Bombay Suburban Electric Supply is all set to provide Internet services under the brand name powersurfer.net from February 2001. Broadband Internet connectivity can be availed of by subscribers by either depositing Rs 5,000 or by paying Rs 999 a month. Additional charges like telephone dial-up expenses will not be incurred by subscribers.

 

BSES Telecom announces 60% price cut in ISP rates
BSES Telecom has good news for private corporates and institutions with its proposed 60 per cent cut in Internet leased line tariffs. The offer, available from mid January, offers a 2 Mbps leased line at the rate of Rs 17.75 lakh as compared to the earlier rate of Rs 55 lakh. The revised rate is inclusive of the installation charge of Rs 1 lakh.

 

DoT allows additional bandwidth to ISPs
In an attempt to increase bandwidth supply, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has decided to allow private ISPs to apply for additional bandwidth beyond the 8 Mbps per gateway limit. ISPs who have an in-principle agreement with the DoT and have received approval for their gateways can now avail of this offer.
