Mapping is the projection of an image on an object’s surface. There are different types of mapping depending on the way the image is projected and on the interaction between the projection and the object’s surface. Other parameters can be also set (scale, repetition, orientation, etc.). If no image was previously specified, Amapi 3D will first map a default image when opening this dialog box. |
q The different types of mapping
There are different types of mapping depending on the way the image is projected on the object’s surface.
Amapi 3D displays a list of the available mapping types: sphere, cylinder, plane, cube etc….
Scroll through the list and select the mapping type you want to use.
q Tiling
You can request that the selected image be repeated a certain number of times horizontally and vertically. The number of repetitions can be set either using the slider or by typing the value directly.
q Interactive setting of the mapping parameters
The object is displayed in the preview window with the selected image mapped on it. If you drag the cursor on top of this window, you will see a control box, displayed, whose shape depends on the type of mapping selected. This control box will allow you to move, distort or rotate the image onto the object interactively simply by using the mouse.
¨ Change mapping type
Pressing the spacebar will apply mapping types from the list, one after another.
¨ Move the image
Dragging the cursor inside the rectangle changes the Wand into a hand, indicating that you can move the image along the object.
Usage:
1. Click on the object to grab the image (do not release the mouse button).
2. Drag the cursor around (the image follows the cursor’s movements).
3. Release the mouse button once you reach the proper location.
¨ Scale the image
Placing the cursor on top of one of the rectangle’s handle transforms the cursor into a claw, indicating that you can grab a handle to distort the image.
Modifying the scale: The corner handles are used to change the scale of the image. |
Distortion: Pulling a handle placed on the center of one of the segments of the bounding box will distort the image in only one direction. |
Proceed as follow:
1. Click on a handle to grab it (do not release the mouse button).
2. Drag the cursor in the chosen direction.
3. Release the mouse button once you are satisfied with the image distortion.
¨ Rotating the image
Position the cursor outside of the rectangle and proceed as follows:
1. Click outside of the rectangle (do not release the mouse button).
2. Move the cursor to rotate the image.
3. Release the mouse button once you reach the proper image position.
