Microsoft Java VM--The Microsoft Java VM is an ActiveX control that allows Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 use rs to run Java applets. The control is installed as a component of Internet Explorer 3.0. The Java VM supports integration between other ActiveX controls and a Java applet. In addition, the Java VM understands the component object model (COM) and is capable of loading COM classes and exposing COM interfaces. This means that you can now write ActiveX controls using Java. Java Virtual Machine Implementation--Download this PowerPoint presentation, given by Mike Toutonghi at JavaOne in June 1996. Mike Touton ghi is the Development Lead on Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine (VM) team. This presentation provides an overview of Microsoft's implementation of its virtual machine for Java, and includes information about the Object Model, garbage collection, Java /COM integration, Native Code Interface, and JIT compilation. The presentation is also available from the Java Resources page, which has many links to information on Java.

Specifica lly, the ActiveX Control Pad makes it easy to add ActiveX controls and ActiveX scripting (Microsoft Visual Basic® Scripting Edition [VBScript] or JavaScript™) to HTML pages for viewing in Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 or other Web browser s that support ActiveX controls. The ActiveX Control Pad also includes WYSIWYG support for authoring 2-D layout regions in conjunction with the Microsoft HTML Layout Control.

This release of the ActiveX SDK focuses on the recent Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 Beta 1 r elease, which is distributed only over the Internet. URL Monikers and OLE Hyperlinks -- URL monikers and OLE hyperlinks are two of the lower level ActiveX services that applications, ActiveX documents, and ActiveX controls can exploit to easily download data or to link to other documents on the Internet. This paper reviews the function of OLE version 2.0 monikers and how that has evolved into an asynchronous representation for use on the Internet. The paper also looks at how OLE hyperlinking is extending the point-and-click browsing metaphor beyond HTML to create jump links to alte rnative types of objects and documents.
