Quick Start on using
RemoteView to Connect to Watcher
Note: You can also take a look at Quick Start on How to
Use Watcher
There are six scenarios that you may encounter when you want to use
RemoteView to connect to Watcher and do remote video surveillance. The following provides a quick start to connect
RemoteView to Watcher and watch real-time video remotely. All
scenarios are based on the assumption that you want to remotely monitor your home in your office cubical. Of course, it also applies if you want to monitor your office from another remote location.
1. You have a modem at home, and a modem at your office.
2. You have a modem at home, In your office, you don't have a modem, but you are in a LAN (local area network), and can access internet.
3. You are using xDSL (for example, ADSL) at home. In your office, you only have a modem.
4. You are using xDSL (for example, ADSL) at home, In your office, you are in a LAN (local area network), and can access internet.
5. Your home PC has other means to connect to internet (T1, Cable Modem, ... ), In your office, you only have a modem.
6. Your home PC has other means to connect to internet (T1, Cable Modem, ... ). In your office, you are in a LAN (local area network), and can access internet.
1. You have a modem at home, and a modem at your office.
Power on your modem at home, make sure the phone-line is plugged in, but don't dial up to ISP, run Watcher and listening on Modem. Now go to your office, use your modem to dial to your home's phone
number (Click Connect and choose
appropriate settings). You can now watch real-time video! This is a low-cost solution since it only involves a local phone charge when there is video connection
(Hard to understand this? well, imagine the modem as a normal phone, Watcher and RemoteView are two persons and the video transmitted is the voice!).
However, low-cost doesn't mean poor video quality. In fact, with our
advanced video compression, our software even works very well with 14.4K
modem.
2. You have a modem at home, In your office, you don't have a modem, but you are in a LAN (local area network), and can access internet.
At your home, dial up to ISP using your modem. Now your home PC is on internet, and your home PC has an IP address.
Copy the IP address down (since it's dynamically assigned). Run Watcher at your home, listening on TCP/IP. Now go to your office, using
TCP/IP connection to connect to your home PC's IP
address by clicking Connect and
choosing appropriate settings, and you can do remote video surveillance! Don't worry if you are behind a firewall in your office, our software RemoteView can bypass the firewall if your company's proxy provides
SOCKS (how to get Socks address?).
3. You are using xDSL (for example, ADSL) at home. In your office, you only have a modem.
This is also a good scenario for remote surveillance since DSL only charges you when there is data flow, and your PC can hence be on internet 24 hours with a fixed IP address! Now,
copy down your home PC's IP address, run Watcher at your home, listening on TCP/IP. And then go to your office, dial up to a local ISP using your office modem. So now, your office PC is on internet, run RemoteView and use
TCP/IP connection to connect to your home PC's IP
address (just click Connect and
choose appropriate settings), and you can do remote video surveillance!
4. You are using xDSL (for example, ADSL) at home, In your office, you are in a LAN (local area network), and can access
internet.
Well, this is the best scenario. Since DSL only charges you when there is data flow, and your PC can hence be on internet 24 hours with a fixed IP address! Now,
copy down your home PC's IP address, run Watcher at your home, listening on TCP/IP. And then go to your office, run RemoteView and use
TCP/IP connection to connect to your home PC's IP
address (just click Connect and enter
correct settings), and you can do remote video surveillance! Don't worry if your company's firewall is blocking the outer connection, our software RemoteView can bypass the firewall as long as your company's proxy provides
SOCKS (How to get SOCKS address?).
5. Your home PC has other means to connect to internet (T1, Cable Modem, ... ), In your office, you only have a modem.
As long as your home PC can connect to internet, your home PC has a IP
address. Make sure your home PC's IP address can be seen by outside (not behind a firewall).
Note down your home PC's IP address. Run Watcher at your home, listening on TCP/IP. Now go to your office, dial up to a local ISP using your office modem. So now, your office PC is on internet, run RemoteView and use
TCP/IP connection to connect to your home PC's IP
address (just click Connect and enter
appropriate values), you can now watch real-time video!
6. Your home PC has other means to connect to internet (T1, Cable Modem, ... ). In your office, you are in a LAN (local area network), and can access internet.
As long as your home PC can connect to internet, your home PC has a IP address. Make sure your home PC's IP address can be seen by outside (not behind a firewall).
Note down your home PC's IP address. Run Watcher at your home, listening on TCP/IP. Now go to your office, run RemoteView and use TCP/IP connection to connect to your home PC's IP
address (just click Connect and enter
apprepriate values), and you can do remote video surveillance! Don't worry if you are behind a firewall in your office, our software RemoteView can bypass the firewall if your company's proxy provides
SOCKS (how to find SOCKS address?).
