Setting Up Dial Up Networking

This is a guide to setting up Dial Up Networking for connecting to Madasafish.

You can start Dial-Up Networking from within the My Computer icon on the desktop, or by clicking on Start | Programs | Accessories | Communications (Windows 98 only).

To make a new connection, double click the Make New Connection icon.

Enter a relevant name for this connection, such as Madasafish.

Click Next.

Enter the Area Code as 0845 and the Telephone Number as 611 0 611.

Click Next.

Editing The Connection

Now that you have a connection created you will need to check the settings within it. There are 2 methods to looking at the settings. Use the right mouse button and click on the connection once. A menu will appear and you should choose Properties by clicking on the left mouse button. Or you can highlight the connection by clicking once with the left hand button and then clicking on the File drop down menu and choosing properties.

Whichever method you use you should get a screen similar to the following.

General

There is no need to change anything here as this screen only contains the telephone number and modem that you entered earlier.

Click on the Server Types tab or button..

Server Type

Your settings should be similar to those above. Only Enable software compression and TCP/IP should be checked.

The Type of Dial-Up Server should be set to PPP…. What comes after this will depend on the version of Windows that you are running.

 

The TCP/IP settings should be as above.

Click OK.

 

The final 2 tabs (Scripting and Multilink do not need to be set.)

Click OK to complete the changes.
