.net issue 65, Applet of the Month

<> This applet is called the Scrolling Image Applet. You can find out more about the parameters involved so that you can tailor the applet to your needs at http://www.serve.com/wizjd/java/JDScrollingImagemap/index.html. If you're new to using Java Applets, find out more about how to use them at .net's on-line tutorial - Easy Java Applets at http://www.netmag.co.uk/webbuilder/59easyjavaapplets/.

Scroll around the main image using its small map in the bottom right of the applet. Image mapping is used so that some parts of the main picture link to URLs - like our web address underneath the logo, for example. You'll notice that we've used some very large image files in this example so that you can get a real feel for the applet. In real use across the web, don't use such large full colour images - either use a picture with smaller dimensions or less colours or image quality so that the filesize isn't too big and will therefore download quickly. The actual applets files used are about 10Kb in total, so the download time is minimal.

You'll find the applet files that you need stored in this folder.
