Authoring Demo
In this demo you will learn how to implement some of WIRL's
advanced authoring capabilities.
1. Background Color
Click the right mouse button on the grey background of the
3D world to bring up the authoring menu.
Select World Attributes and then select Background Color. Under
Background Color, press the Select button. Select a light
color and press the OK button, and then the next OK button.
2. Object Color
Click the right mouse button on the green sphere to change its attributes.
Select Object Attributes and then Color. Under
Object Color, press the Select button. Select a color and press
the OK button, and then the next OK button.
3. Wrap a Texture
Click the right mouse button on the vase. Select Object Attributes
and then Texture. Under Object Texture, select Browse. Choose
the texture "marbswrl.jpg" and then the Open button. Select a wrap type
just below the Clear button. Choose the Cylindrical Wrap option and then
select the OK button.
4. Object Shading
Click the right mouse button on the candle or candlestick holder. Select Object Attributes
and then Shading. Under Object Shading, select WireFrame and then
select the OK button.
After observing the change in shading, you should set the shading back to Gouraud
by repeating #4 and choosing Gouraud instead of WireFrame.
5. Gravity
Click the right mouse button on the background of the
3D world and Select World Attributes and then select Gravity. Under
Gravity, select the Active box. Do not change the acceleration or
height of floor, these are preset to appropriate values. Now, press the OK button.
Nothing Happened...
Gravity is active, but none of the objects has been told to Respond to Gravity.
6. Respond to Gravity
Click the right mouse button on the sphere. Select Object Attributes
and then Respond to Gravity. Under Physical Attributes, check off the
remaining attributes Throwable, Respond to Gravity and Elasticity. Then set
the elasticity to the value 50 and press the OK button.
7. Throw
The sphere should have fallen and bounced a few times before coming to rest. Try moving
the sphere with the right mouse button (While the mouse pointer is over the sphere, hold down the
right mouse button and drag the mouse). When you release the mouse the sphere should drop and
bounce again.
To throw the sphere, grab and move the sphere using the right mouse button. While
still moving the sphere, release the right mouse button and the sphere will fly and drop
back down because of gravity.
8. Auto Rotate
Click the right mouse button on the candlestick. Select Object Attributes
and then Auto Rotate. Under Rotation Values in the Yaw field, enter
10. Leave the other values at zero and press the OK button.
9. Auto Translate
Click the right mouse button on the vase. Select Object Attributes
and then Auto Translate. Under Translate Values, in the X field,
enter 0.4, and leave the Y and Z values at zero. Under Translate Limits,
check the box to the right of the "0.4" you just entered. In the field next to the check
box, enter -5, which is the minimum. Enter the maximum value 5, in the next field. Finally
press the OK button.
10. Link to Another World
Click the right mouse button on the candlestick holder. Select Object Attributes
and then URL HyperLink. Under URL Hyperlink, in the top field enter the
filename wirl.vrw, then in the field below enter the text:
WIRL logo
Then press the OK button.
Now when you pass the mouse over the candlestick or holder,
the cursor will change. Click the left mouse button on the candlestick holder to jump to the new
world.
Note: You must be in Viewer Navigation Mode, (the man running icon at the bottom
of the world) to activate a hyperlink.
