Dialogs

Most dialog boxes in XML Spy are shown in response to a certain menu command or click on a toolbar button and are, therefore, explained in the individual chapters that describe the respective commands.

This section describes standard dialog boxes, that are used by more than one command.

Assign File
The Assign File dialog box is opened by the Assign DTD, Assign Schema, or Assign XSL commands and prompts you for a file or path name to be used for the requested process:

xsl_assign

You can either:

enter a path name into the text box

select from a list of most recently used filenames using the drop-down list

browse for a file on your computer (using the common Open dialog box), or

use the Window button to select any currently open window or any file that is part of the current project.

Select file
The Select File dialog box lets you choose any currently open window or any file from your current project, as a convenient way to locate a file to be used for the various Assign commands.

Double clicking an entry in either window, places the file name in the Assign File dialog box.

Both windows show the available files based on their extensions depending on which command was selected: Assign DTD, Assign Schema, or Assign XSL.
