To enable or configure timed backup: choose "Preferences" from the Edit menu.

Timed backup provides regular backups of documents being edited, should the program fail and the Recovery Wizard not activate. Saved documents are backed up to the same location as the original file, with a '.bak' extension on the filename.

When a document is closed, the backup copy is deleted automatically.
