HOW IS A PERMANENT CONNECTION DIFFERENT FROM A DIAL UP ON DEMAND?
When you have a permanent modem connection with TPG Internet, we allocate you a dedicated telephone number and modem waiting for you to make your connection at any time.
You also receive a static IP address, which is necessary for routing purposes if you want access via your network.
You can connect to the Internet 24 hours a day, 7 days a week or just connect during your business hours. The choice is yours. There are NO download or time limits.
WHAT DO TPG OFFER?
This TPG Internet service is tailored to suit small to large organisations including schools, who require a permanent presence on the Internet.
- Currently TPG Internet offer cost effective 56K permanent modem connectivity in Metropolitan areas, however the Regional PoP’s are being upgraded to 56K during the first half of 1999. Inquire with TPG Internet, if 56K is available at your point of presence
- TPG also offer support for Multilink PPP, in Metropolitan areas. Multilink is a communication protocol that allows you to make multiple PPP connections and aggregate the bandwidth to give you one logical high speed data channel. Multilink is now included as a standard feature in Dial-Up Networking in Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows NT. Multilink can be used by two to four modems

- A Setup Charge covers all hardware costs at TPG’s site and IP address allocation
- Customers should also take into account other costs such as extra Telstra phone lines or line rental and call charges, which includes providing the connection hardware on their end such as modems and workstations
