Windows 98 Configuration |
We know you are eager to install your new software and begin exploring the Internet, but before you get started, please take a few minutes to read this short guide. It contains relevant information for a smooth installation and configuration of the software. You should have your TPG Internet Invoice or Voucher with you, which has your username & password, as well as other Setup Configuration details you will require.
A Guided Tour can be followed using Windows Help, under Connecting to the Internet (using Dial-up Networking)

In the My Computer folder, select Dialup Networking, here you will find an icon labelled TPG Internet (you just created this); Point at it, click and hold with the right mouse button, and edit its properties; Make sure that everything in here is correct, that this adaptor is bound to TCP/IP, and you have software compression, but not Log onto network at this stage
- In the Configure, then Options menu, you should select Bring up terminal window after dialling; Enter the Server Type settings menu, and ensure you have a server assigned IP address, specified name server addresses (DNS 1 & 2 details on your TPG Internet invoice), nothing in WINS, and use default gateway on remote network; You can also edit the properties of the Internet icon on your desktop
Step 4: Connecting TPG Internet With The Windows 95 Dialer
Click the Internet icon, check the phone number is correct, and Click Connect; After the modem has dialled and the usual tones complete, the Terminal Window should appear, if it stays blank for more than a few seconds press Enter; If this window does not appear, you should re-read the above steps

- You can now use any Internet software compatible with your system whilst online
- You can use the Windows Help to find out how to automate the login process using a Dial-Up Networking script
