56K Windows 3.xx Configuration
We know you are eager to install your new software and begin exploring the Internet, but before you get started, please take a few minutes to read this short guide. It contains relevant information for a smooth installation and configuration of the software. You should have your TPG Internet Invoice or Voucher with you, which has your username & password, as well as other Setup Configuration details you will require.

Use your existing Modem Configuration when using the TPG 56K Digital Modem Service. In order to follow the instructions below please ensure that the modem is installed.

Step 1: Setup Instructions

  1. In the MSIE group, Double-Click New Connection; Leave defaults as is unless told otherwise.
  2. Enter TPG Internet as the name of the connection. Add the Connection to the Group/Folder or your choice.
  3. In the Connect To window select Properties. Under General on the Connection Properties window, fill in the Phone Number for your location
  4. Ensure Bring up terminal window after dialing is selected; The other four options available can be changed as needed.
  5. Under Modem on the Connection Properties window, modify these as required for your modem.
  6. Under Domain Name on the Connection Properties window, enter tpg.com.au for the Domain Name.
  7. Enter the Domain Name Service (DNS) for your location from the table provided in the information sheet provided to you with your receipt; DNS1 is the Primary DNS, DNS2 is the Backup DNS.
  8. Click OK to finish with the Connection Properties window.
Step 2: Getting Connected
  1. From the Program Manager, select the group in which you have previously installed Internet Explorer.
  2. Double-Click on the connection TPG Internet.
  3. Click Connect to start dialing.
  4. After the modem has dialed and the usual tones complete, the Terminal Window should appear.
  5. When prompted enter your Username and press Enter; If prompt does not appear press enter. When prompted for your Password enter your Password and press Enter; Make sure that both your Username and Password are in lower case (as you will not be able to see the password).
  6. Once your details have been verified, you will be presented with a prompt containing the word choice; Type ppp and press Enter.
  7. On switching to PPP, you will see gibberish in the terminal window; This is your cue to Click Continue/F7 at the bottom of this window.
  8. You should now be informed on the status of your PPP connection, and finally told that you are Connected; At this time you should check that the connect speed is correct for your modem.
  9. You are now connected to the TPG 56K Digital Modem Service.
