Peter Stone

MEXICO

Peter Stone accidentally became a professional photographer because "it seemed like a good way to get a certain scholarship to Rome I had heard about." He covered the famine in Somalia in 1993 and post-coup Estonia in 1992, and he has made trips to Romania, Czechoslovakia, and the former Yugoslavia for various Finnish publications. He joined Black Star in 1991 and covered the breakup of the Soviet Union from the Baltic Republics. He arrived in Mexico in July of 1994, where he does feature, editorial, and corporate work for clients such as the Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Boston Globe, ABB, GM, and Der Spiegel. He won the Feature Single Award in the Photographer of the Year contest of the Finnish Press Photographers' Association in 1993.
