Jeremy Nicholl

Jeremy Nicholl was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He started his career in photography working as a freelance press photographer in London in 1981, where his clients included the London Times, the Guardian, The Daily Express, and The Daily Mirror. He joined the British picture agency Impact Photos in 1984, and from then until 1986 he worked on assignments for British color magazines, and for Time and Newsweek. In 1986 he was invited to help launch the new daily British national newspaper The Independent and until 1989 he worked there on national and international stories. In 1990 he joined the British agency Katz Pictures, and since then has concentrated on working throughout the former Soviet Union, both on assignment for major international newspapers and magazines, and on his own reports. Nicholl's work has appeared in a wide range of magazines and newspapers world-wide. He was a contributor to A Day in the Life of London and Ireland - a Week in the Life of a Nation. In 1995 his report on the destruction caused by the Russian military assault on Grozny, Cechnya was shown at the Perpignon Festival of Photojournalism, the premier event of its kind in the world. He is also currently working on his own book of photographs from Russia.
