Dario Mitidieri was among the first journalists to cover the earthquake in Kobe, Japan. Born in Italy, he has lived in London since 1981. In 1985, he gained a distinction in photojournalism at the London College of Printing. He has contributed to many publications, including The Sunday Telegraph, The Independent Magazine, Sunday Times Magazine, Stern, and Das Magazine. In 1992, he worked on a project about the street children of Bombay after winning the W. Eugene Smith Memorial Grant in Humanistic Photography. Among his other awards are NUJ Photographer of the Year, Visa d'Or, and the Premio Fotografia Periodistica La Nacion. He has exhibited his work in the United Kingdom, Italy, France, India, Ireland, and Holland.
