Francisco Mata Rosas
MEXICO
Francisco Mata Rosas was born in Mexico City. His photographic work has been
published in The New York Times, The LA Times, La Press, El Financiero, El Dia,
El Nacional and La Jornada. He worked at La Jornada (Mexican newspaper) from 1986
to 1991. Mata Rosas has collaborated in the magazines The Independent,
Photography, El Paseante, Mexico Indigena, Voz y Voto, Mira, Cuartoscuro,
Zonas, Etcetera and Luna Cornea de Mexico among many others. His photographs
have been exhibited most recently in Mexico Stad, Koninklijk Institut Voor de
Tropen of Amsterdam, Holland in 1992; the Mexican Cultural Center in Paris,
France,1993; the Europalia festival, Belgium,1993; Light Factory in
Louisiana, USA, 1993; Centro de la Imagen in Mexico City,1994, 1995, 1996
and Mexican Photographs, Frankfurt Book Fair, Germany 1992 to name a few.
Mata Rosas has been recognized with the Premio de Adquisicion en la Bienal
de Fotografia Mexicana in 1988. He won an Honor Prize in the Commemorative
Concourse in the Bicentenary of the French Revolution in 1989, a production
grant from the Mexican National Advisory for Culture and the Arts in 1989, the
third annual Mother Jones, and the Premio de coinversion del Fonca (Mexico) in 1994.
