Sarah Leen

Sarah Leen's work appears regularly in National Geographic magazine. Her assignments have included Lake Baikal in Russia's central Siberia, the Kamchatka Peninsula on Siberia's east coast, the endurance of the Buffalo on the Great Plains of the U.S., an examination of the U.S.-Canadian border, and the Central Valley of California. Her coverage of Macedonia will be published in March, 1996. As a staff photographer for five years at the Philadelphia Inquirer she covered news stories ranging from Beirut to South Africa. In 1986 she won an honorable mention in the Robert Kennedy Awards for her story about a couple coping with Alzheimer's disease. Sarah has participated in the Day in the Life series of books in America, California, Spain, Russia, Vietnam and China. In 1974 she received a B.A. in Fine Arts from the University of Missouri and continued there with graduate work in the School of Journalism. In 1979 she was awarded College Photographer of the Year. She has been an instructor at the Missouri Photo Workshop for four years and last summer taught at the Maine Photo Workshop.
