Bill Hess flies a small plane across the Far North documenting the lifestyle and culture of the rural and native people of Alaska, Canada, Greenland, and the Russian Far East. He has extensively documented the whaling culture of the I-up'at Eskimo people of Northern Alaska. He has also worked extensively among the Apache and other Natives of the Southwest. Among his many credits are such publications as National Geographic, Geo, and Running Dog magazines. He is the founder of Running Dog Publications.
