Changing Your Preferences

The a2b music Player lets you alter a number of defaults with its Preferences selection under Options tab on the Player menu bar:

		Options->Preferences
This provides you with a mechanism for defining both your General a2b music preferences and your Directory locations for your songs and playlists.

The General Tab

Four functions are provided within the General tab: track intro time, controlling the list of recently played songs or playlists, setting the download prompt option, and configuring your Internet settings.

Track Intro Length

Recall that the Player menu bar offers the command:
		Play->Intro
which plays the introductory portion only of a song. This field defines, in seconds, the length of the introductory play. This value may range from 5 to 30 seconds.

MRU List Control

The MRU list is a list of the Recent Songs played by your player. This is the list that is shown to the right when you select from the Player menu bar:
		File->Recent Songs
This list may be from 4 to 16 in length, no matter how many songs you play. It actually refers to either single songs or playlists. Hitting the Clear MRUs button clears the MRU list.

Prompt to save downloaded music dialog

This check-box provides a convenient way for you to have the system complete a download while you're away from your computer. If checked, then a window will appear for each song downloaded so you can determine its save location. A response is required before the song file is saved.

The default (box unchecked) is to automatically (without user intervention) save the downloaded songs within the directory defined in your Directories tab.

Internet Settings

If you are using a Netscape browser you should check that the Netscape proxy settings in the Windows Control Panel Internet application - typically the settings don't match which causes problems when downloading a2b music songs.

You can check this by looking at the Connection tab within your Internet proxy settings:

Define your Internet Properties HTTP server to match that of Netscape. You can access the Netscape-defined value by menu selection for your version:
        Navigator:    Options->Network Preferences->Proxies

        Communicator: Edit->Preferences->Advanced->Proxies
Once this is completed, you should be able to download a2b music songs successfully.

The Directories Tab

The directories tab specifies default directory location where your two kinds of a2b music files (songs and playlists) are stored. This directory is created during the Player install, and it specifies the default browse location whenever you purchase or retrieve songs for play with the a2b music Player.

If you have moved your songs/playlists and desire a default browse directory other than that shown, use the Browse key to find the desired location. Use the Apply or OK key to make the changes permanent. The default locations for the a2b music directory are:

  • Windows NT: under your login within the winnt\Profiles directory.
  • Windows 95/98: under AT&T a2b music Player within the Program Files directory
Important Note:
Even if you choose to store your downloaded digital music on another drive, you need to keep sufficient space on your ${Temp} drive for the browser during the download operation.
