Stop A Service Action

Works on Windows NT/2000 ONLY

Description

This step will stop a service already installed and running on the local NT server or workstation. Task execution pauses while a service is stopping and does not continue until AutoMateā„¢ receives notification from the Service Control Manager about the success of the stop service command. If the service stops correctly, the task continues. If not, the step will fail. Most services provide you with more details of their status by making entries in the Windows NT Event Log.

Parameters

Service to Stop
Specifies the service to stop. A drop-down list of all the installed services is displayed for convenience. In order to start and stop a service it must have previously been installed into the Service Control Manager (SCM) - consult your Windows/or application documentation if you are unsure how to do this. If the service is not in the list, you can still enter in the name of a service that you know will be installed when the task starts.

Notes

The user running the task (or the user-context provided by the LOGIN step of the task) usually must have Administrator rights or equivalent to start, stop, add or remove a service on most NT workstations.
