Exporting A Task

Tasks can be saved as individual files and then loaded in other AutoMate™ installations by transferring the file to another system and importing it. Single Task File Format files (or STFF for short) contain all the information required to run the task: task name, triggers, and steps. It will even remember your password and priority settings. The file does not, however, contain executables or data files that may be required to run your task properly. If your task depends on script files, recorded event data files, or any executables that are starting using a Start Application action, you need to ensure that these files are copied as well, or the task modified to take these occurrences into account.

To Export a task, perform the following steps

  1. Open the AutoMate Configuration Manager by either double-clicking the AutoMate icon in the system tray or selecting it from the AutoMate 4 program group.

  2. Select Export from the File menu

  3. Enter a filename for the task you wish to export.

or

  1. Drag a the task you wish to export from the configuation manager into any open Windows Explorer window or to your desktop. AutoMate™ will automatically export it to the directory you dragged the task into. This also works with most e-mail clients (drag the task into your e-mail message and a file attachment will be created)

When you export a task, a file containing all the information about a task is created. You can then copy this file, e-mail it to a friend, or anything else you would do with a normal document file.
