IRCX Frequently Asked Questions

Q - What is IRCX ?

A - IRCX is an extension to IRC , the original chat protocol . IRCX is compatible with IRC and it offers more functionality and security to the IRC system .

Q - Will my IRC client work with IRCX ?

A - Yes , with basic features and extended like keys . If you interested in commands that do not need /ircx at startup , then its ok for your client . If you need commands that require /ircx mode , you may notice some problems .

Q - What are the main features of IRCX ?

A - You can set keys for your channel , in order to enter and gain automatically @ . You can set timeout'ed bans . You can use more channel modes .

Q - What is command /ircx ?

A - /ircx enables IRCX mode for your client , assuming +x client mode for you . When you are in this mode , you receive additional messages and you can use more commands .

Q - What is the difference between "ownerkey" and "hostkey"  ?

A - IRCX has two levels instead one single @ : The owner level , and the host level . Both can set bans  , kick users etc , but the one that is owner can also change the channel keys , and do some additional commands , as well as apply some additional modes to the channel .

Q - How can I become a host or an owner in a channel ?

A - If the channel is unregistered , then the first one that joins becomes owner . If the channel is registered , you must give the correct key to become an owner using the /join command :

/join #roomname ownerkey , or /join #roomname hostkey , and you will get the host or ownerstatus when you join the channel . You must leave the channel in order to use the key.

Q - How can I set keys for my channel ?

A - To set a key  , you must be owner of the channel . Use /prop to set keys as follows :

Example : /prop #usa ownerkey :blah

When you set a key , the key remains until its changed or until the channel is closed . If the channel is registered , when its closed , the original keys are restored , if the channel is not registered , no keys are assumed until the owner sets some .

Q - How can I give host or owner status to a user in my channel ?

A - Host is like IRC , /mode #roomname +o nick . IRCX uses +q to recognize owner level , so you can do /mode #roomname +q nick ( or -q to remove it ) .

Q - I add or remove +q status and the server sends mode +o or -o ! What's that ?

A - For IRC compability , server sends +o or -o in order for the client to understand the message . However , the background is that the user is or is not owner . You must be in IRCX status ( use /ircx ) to see the +q message . TurboIRC recognizes +q messages .

Q - How can I see which are owners and which are hosts when entering a channel ?

A - For IRC compability , IRCX servers use @ preffix for both owners and hosts . If you are in /ircx mode , the server uses . prefix (point) for owners . TurboIRC handles IRCX mode with absolute success .
