IRC Problems

Q - I cannot connect to the server ! It says "Connection failed" !

A - If you get the message while the Connect dialog is still visible , that means that the domain name of the server cannot be resolved to an IP address . For example , you will get that message if you want to connect to chat.net.org and you type chan.net.org

If you get the message when the Server Window is already created , that means that the connection could not be established , because either your line to the server is broken , ( or your ISP's line ) , or the server is shutdown . In both cases , you should wait for a few minutes/hours/days , and you can contact your ISP to discuss it . Check also if the destination port is valid , because not all servers have it in 6667 .

Q - I can connect to the server , but almost immediately my connection is terminated !

A - If the server "kills" you , that can happen for one or more of the following reasons :

You use a nick that is not acceptable
You use a mail that is not acceptable
You are killed because of a server ban

In the 3rd case , either your ISP is banned , or your whole country is banned . In the first case you usually wait for a few days until the ban expires . When your whole country is banned , that means that this server does not accept connections from your country . Most times , there is a server linked to the server you want to connect , and you can use it instead .
