Graphic Button applet 8

Overview

This applet will create a push button with an image on it. When you click on the button in the browser, another page will be opened in a separate browser window or a specific frame. Note: At the time of this release, this applet runs only in Netscape Navigator 3.0.

This applet could be used to simulate an application toolbar on a Web site since the button has very Windows-like action: once the button is pressed, the user can move the mouse cursor off the button and release, and the applet will not be activated.

Setting up the push button

When you drag this applet to the HoTMetaL PRO document, a dialog box (called a Design-Time Control) appears; this enables you to set up the push button.

The fields in this dialog box should be filled out as follows:

Applet parameters

  • Height and Width specify the amount of space in the main browser window that will be reserved for this applet. These should correspond to the height and width of the push button image that you wish to use, but you should add 4 pixels to each dimension because the applet creates a beveled effect at the edges of the button.
  • Site Root Dir: choose the folder in which the HTML page containing the applet has been saved. (This is necessary if you wish to preview the applet from your local disk.)
  • Use FastLoader: a program that speeds up the loading of the applet.

Graphic Pushbutton Parameters

  • Image URL: the URL of the button image.
  • Destination URL: the URL of the page linked to the push button.
  • Target Frame: if you want the page linked to the push button to be displayed in a particular frame (if a frames-based document is being displayed in the browser), enter the frame name here.

Click on OK when you have finished the setup. You can display this dialog box again by right-clicking on the applet icon and choosing DTC Properties... from the pop-up menu.
