Code Analyst

Dissects your VB code and gets down to business

The powerful new tool which will help you produce the highest quality Visual Basic code possible! We have put every effort into making this one of the finest add-on products available to programmers.

Code Analyst is a completely new tool for Visual Basic 3.0 and 4.0. It provides much needed quality assessment capabilities which will help you along the path of creating quality software. The main features of Code Analyst are:

Now thoroughly cross reference Visual Basic 3.0 and 4.0 projects. Produce reports which break down, in varying levels of detail, information about your project.

Code Analyst lets you browse Visual Basic projects without Visual Basic! Browsing commands such as [CTRL][F2] to step into a procedure are fully supported, along with additional functionality such as book marks and a history list.

Two major goals of Code Analyst are to cut down the amount of paperwork generated by code reviews and walk-throughs and to make the whole process more efficient. In Code Analyst, you define a set of standards to which code should adhere. Code Analyst can then automatically checks your code for deviations from this standard. This allows you to concentrate on less mundane issues when reviewing code.

When Code Analyst reviews a project, it marks any problems using annotations. These annotations can then be viewed in a Code Analyst code window. You can also add your own annotations to the code, delete annotations and amend existing annotations.

As well as normal Visual Basic projects, Code Analyst uses the concept of a virtual project. A virtual project consists of components from multiple Visual Basic projects. This allows you to pull together various files and treat them as if were a standalone VB project. These virtual projects can be cross-referenced, browsed, reviewed and annotated as if they were a normal project.

Any dead (i.e. unused) code can be automatically removed by Code Analyst from a project. The Code Analyst Compression Wizard guides you step by step through the compression process. The result is smaller executable sizes and faster run-time execution. Copyright 1995-1996 MicroHelp, Inc.
