Microsoft Reference Setup Troubleshooter
Determine if you are using real-mode CD-ROM drivers. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, and then click Run.
- In the Open box, type Sysedit. The System Configuration Editor opens on the screen.
- On the Windows menu, click Autoexec.bat.
- Locate the line containing the file name Mscdex.exe.
- Type REM, and then press the SPACEBAR at the beginning of the line containing the file name Mscdex.exe.
- On the File menu, click Save.
- On the Windows menu, click Config.sys.
- Locate the line containing the CD-ROM device driver.
- Type REM, and then press the SPACEBAR at the beginning of the line containing the CD-ROM device driver.
- On the File menu, click Save, and then click Exit.
- Restart the computer and then attempt to install the program again.
