Known Bugs & Workarounds
The follow bugs are known in this version of G-Sector. If you find more bugs, please report them to the forum at Ingava.com.
- Cyra can get stuck in rare spots on the map. If this happens, hit ESC and restart the game.
- Batteries sometimes can't be picked. We are trying to track down this bug.
- Trouble with 3dfx cards. If you have a Voodoo2 you may experience a problem in which you can only run G-Sector once and will need to restart the computer to play again.
- Older ATI cards may not function properly. This is a D3D driver problem that ATI must resolve.
- Some weapon effects do not show on older computers especially K6-2, K6-3, and 1st generation 3D accelerators.
- Excessive particles or projectiles will cause the engine to shutdown and crash.
Installation
G-Sector is easy to install, simply double click on the self-extracting archive and follow the InstallShield instructions.
Requirements System Specifications
To run G-Sector, your system should meet the following minimum specifications:
Recommended System Specs
For optimal performance your system should meet or exceed the following specs:
- Intel Pentium III 500
- 64 megs RAM
- 40 megs free hardrive space
- 3rd generation Direct 3D accelerator with 8MB of RAM
- DirectSound compatible sound card
- Windows 95/98/ME/2000
- DirectX 7
- Mouse
NOTE: You may experience poor performance if your system does not meet recommended system specs. An Intel Pentium III CPU is highly recommended; K6-2 and K6-3 have poor performance on G-Sector. Also, G-Sector uses high resolution textures and skins. A 3rd generation video 3D accelerator with 8 or more megabytes of memory is also highly recommended.
Introduction to G-Sector
G-Sector is an arcade-style 3D action game. G-Sector is based around hoverboard combat--a hybrid between an "extreme game" and a third-person shooter. Players control the heroine Cyra as she hoverboards through futuristic cities and arenas. Gameplay is based on using ramps and tricks to build velocity and avoid opponents' shots. G-Sector uses the chasecam and a customizable mouse/keyboard interface.
Cyra enters the G-Sector fully-armed and ready for combat. She has the best and latest in shielding, hoverboards, and weapons: Vulcan Gun, Plasma Rifles, Ion Lances, and ICBMs. To give her the edge in G-Sector battles, can create an unlimited supply of renewable energy. This energy can recharge her shields or be converted to matter which provides her with ammunition.
Playing G-Sector
Double-Click on the G-Sector icon. The game starts immediately after loading. To activate the menu screen press 'ESC'. The options allow you to setup your keyboard and mouse controls, volume, and brightness. Note: G-Sector requires the use of a mouse to turn directions and aim.
Objective
There is a "kill" counter in the top right of the screen. It shows how many opponents you have eliminated and how many you need to complete the level. If you succeed in eliminating the required amount of opponents, you have completed the level. To go to the next level, select "CONTINUE" in the options screen and you will proceed to the next level. Cyra, the character which you control, has 3 lives to complete the game. You must complete each level before you run out of lives.
Your shield power is shown at the lower left of the screen. If this reaches 000 you will be knocked out of the match and you can use up one of Cyra's lives by pushing the 'fire' key.
The remaining lives are shown in small text on your upper left. When you are out of lives, you must restart. To restart, hit "Esc" and select "CONTINUE". At any time, before you beat the level or run out of shields, you may restart that level without losing a life. However, all oppoents will be back. This is good practice if you wish to play a map several times with different weapons.
Energy: Regenerating Shields or Ammo
Cyra uses expermental technology that provides limitless energy and convert energy into matter. It can be used in two ways.
First, Cyra use this energy to recharge her shield power. As long as she is not firing, Cyra's shield will regenerate on its own on a curve. The lower the shield drop, the faster it regenerates. So a shield power of 10 will regenerate far faster than a shield power of 90. Additionally, if you run over the battery items -- you will hear a electric buzz and your shield will be recharged to full power of 100.
Second, in G-Sector the weapons have unlmited ammo. Cyra diverts energy, from regenerating her shield to powering her weapons. Some weapons have greater firing delay and will take longer for Cyra to recharge her shield.
Default Key Commands
The following commands control Cyra's movement and can be changed from the menus screen.
Key | Command |
UP | forward thrust |
DOWN | reverse thrust |
RIGHT | strafe right |
LEFT | strafe left |
MOUSE1 | fire weapon |
MOUSE2 | jump |
ENTER | trick |
Selecting Weapons and Dynamic Fogging
Cyra starts the game with all 8 weapons at her disposal. There is no need to search for weapons, players can jump into to combat immediately. Each weapon has certain advantages and disadvantages.
G-Sector also supports dynamic fogging for visual effect and to increase rendering speed in large maps. The fogging can be adjusted during game play, without interrupting the action. Simply hold down the '9' key for more fogging and '0' for less fogging. G-Sector starts at about a medium fog range to increased compability and framerate for slower computers. If you have a high-end gaming computer, it is highly recommended you decrease the fogging holding down the '0' key.
Key | Command |
1 | vulcan |
2 | PPC |
3 | ion cannon |
4 | missile pod |
5 | pulse |
6 | plasma |
7 | grav mine |
8 | ICBM |
9 (hold down the key) | increase fogging |
0 (hold down the key) | decrease fogging |
