Gnutella 0.56 Instead of logging into a central site in order to connect to the network, any two Gnutella users can hook up and start their own network. Other users then connect up and the network grows. The upside is that since there is no centralised network or organisation, there is no one to sue or prosecute to have the site shut down. In addition, people across isolated networks can privately share files. Once you have found an existing user, you can join their network by plugging in their IP address. |
