Gather stock prices automatically
Tip Not too long ago, you needed a special service and even special gear like a satellite link to capture stock quotes on your PC. Now it's easy to download 15- to 20-minute delayed quotes off the Net. (For true real-time information you still need a special service.) A myriad of shareware and freeware utilities automate the process. They tap into an Internet quote site, download the quotes and even chart them for you. Note: all these programs come set up to download from certain sites, but you can try downloading stock quotes from the following sites: Money Online (http://quote.pathfinder.com/money/quote/qc), PC Quotes (http://www.pcquote.com/watch2.html) or Security APL (http://www.secapl.com/cgi-bin/qs). WinStock for Windows, a $US20 shareware program, exports quotes to Quicken. You'll find it on WinStock's page (http://www.teleport.com/~magoldsm/winstock). The PointCast Network (see our review on page 144 of the December/January 1997 issue) delivers free stock information, as well as news headlines, sports results and more. If you want stock quotes to scroll across the top of your screen in ticker tape fashion, download the $US20 Quote Ticker Bar for Windows 3.1 or Windows 95 from Starfire Software (http://www.starfire-inc.com/). There is also a version for Windows CE. | Category: Internet Issue: Mar 1997 Pages: 190 |
