USING THE S.M.A.R.T. DRIVERS WITH WINDOWS 95 -------------------------------------------- If you believe you have a SMART (Self-Monitoring And Reporting Technology) hard drive, but the SMART sensor in Norton System Doctor reports that no SMART drives can be found on your system, you may want to try installing the Microsoft SMART driver that we've provided for your convenience in the SMARTDRV folder on this CD. The original release of Windows 95 did not include these drivers as a part of its installation. If you are using Windows 95 OEM Service Release 2 (OSR2), the drivers were installed with Windows. To install the driver, double-click SMARTUPD.EXE and follow the instructions on the screen. SMART is built-in to newer hard drives. It allows these drives to monitor their own operation and predict most drive-hardware failures before they occur. The Norton System Doctor SMART sensor warns when a disk drive failure is imminent, but this sensor only supports drives that have SMART built-in. With this warning, you can back up your files and replace or repair your drive before losing valuable data.
