The Vweb Encoder from Vweb Corporation will be launched in the Q3 2000. It will be an optimal platform for high quality MPEG encoding at an excellent price/performance ratio. Using Vweb's patent-pending motion estimation algorithm, Vweb is able to create a low-cost-high-quality MPEG encoder. The Vweb Encoder offers system designers the following features:

Category

Features

Benefits

Input Format

8-bit parallel or serial BT.656 input.
4:2:2 & 4:2:0 with a 4:3 aspect ratio

Universally accepted format from most video decoders

Output Format

MPEG-2 video elementary stream. The streams can be outputted to the external processor or through an 8-bit interface

Completely MPEG-2 compliant. Exceptional viewing and creating quality for a broad range of content.

Frame Rates

29.97 (NTSC) and 25MHz (PAL)

Supports streaming video over a network connection.

Bit-rate

Real-time single-pass. Variable bit rate up to 10Mb/s. Constant bit rate up to 15Mb/s

Horizontal Resolution

720, 704, 640, 544, 480, 384, 360, 352, 320

Vertical Resolution

NTSC: 480 and 240
PAL: 576 and 288

SDRAM

4MB SDRAM

Reduces the overall system cost

GOP structures

Supports dynamically programmed GOP structures: I-only, IP, IBP and IBBP.

Better picture quality around scene changes. Programmable compression versus image quality trade-offs.

Motion Estimation

Two phase search range algorithm with half-pel accuracy:
Coarse: H: +/- 64; V +/- 32
Fine: P pictures +/- 20; B pictures +/- 12

Low gate count. Fast speed. 0.25dB gain loss compared to full search model (C-model).
