You can search your computer and your network to find music and video files and add them to Media Library. Use Search Computer for Media on the Tools menu to locate all music and video files, including links to music and video files. The audio files and links are added to your All Audio playlist and the video files and links are added to your All clips playlist.
Note Links to all media files found in the location you specified are added to your media library. There may be a considerable number of media files that other applications have added to your computer. Windows-based computers use sounds, such as the sound you hear when an error occurs or when you start Windows . The sound files have .wav extension. The files in your system folders are not included in Media Library unless you select the Include WAV and MIDI files found in system folders check box.
To search for media on computers on your network, you must first map or assign a drive letter to the other computers. For example, if you want to search for media files on a computer named Student, you must first assign a drive letter, such as D: to the computer and a shared folder on the computer. The connection might display in the format D: \Student\Music. For more information about mapping drive letters and sharing folders, search the operating system Help for topics about mapping drive letters, sharing folders, and home networking, respectively.
You can also open music and video files, or Web pages in Windows Media Player rather than search your computer for music and video. However, having all media content, except for system files added to Media Library is more convenient than searching for individual files or Web pages to open.
