Starting QuikSync for the first timeTo open QuikSync, click on the Applications tab in the IomegaWare window and double click on the QuikSync icon. Or you can open it by clicking the Start button located on the left side of the taskbar, select Programs, point to IomegaWare, and select QuikSync.
The QuikSync Setup Wizard screen appears. In the QuikSync Setup Wizard you can select the folder want to backup and your destination backup disc. You can also enable revisions. QuikSync will only backup one folder. |
Changing your settingsQuikSync will automatically backup your files, once you have completed the QuikSync Setup Wizard. You do not need to run QuikSync again unless you wish to change your settings. To change your settings, open QuikSync in the same manner as described in the section on starting QuikSync for the first time. You will only see the QuikSync Setup Wizard the first time QuikSync is opened. The next time QuikSync is opened, you will see a simple two-tabbed control panel. GeneralThe General tab contains the very basic functions of QuikSync. In this screen, you can turn QuikSync on and off, select the folder to backup, and select the disc where you want your documents copied. QuikSync The QuikSync setting will allow you to turn QuikSync on and off. QuikSync is on by default. In the on positon, QuikSync will scan a specified folder for updated files and copy them to your QuikSync disc. Source The Source setting allows you to choose the folder that you wish to backup. Destination The Destination setting allows you to select the Iomega® drive to which you want your files backed up. Advanced SettingsOn the Advanced settings tab, you can turn revisions on and off, change the amount of time between updates, and tell the computer to warn you if no disc is present in the selected drive. Revisions Revisions are off by default. With revisions off, the computer will replace your backed up files with their newest versions. With revisions on, the computer will add a numbered file to the target disc every time the document changes. For example, if you save a document titled My File.doc to your hard drive, QuikSync will create a file titled My File (1).doc on your QuikSync disc. Next time you modify My File.doc, QuikSync will save it as My File (2).doc on your QuikSync disc. Time Settings The default time setting for QuikSync is 15 minutes. This means that every fifteen minutes QuikSync will scan the selected files for changes and copy any files that have been changed to your QuikSync disc. Warnings Warnings are on by default. QuikSync will warn you when your QuikSync disc is not inserted only when this option is on. You will receive warnings at interval you set in the Time Settings selector until you insert your QuikSync disc. If warnings are turned off and your QuikSync disk is not inserted, QuikSync will suspend backups without warning until you insert the QuikSync disc. |
QuikSync and disc usageQuikSync will notify you when your QuikSync disc is full and ask you for a new disc. This will automatically change your QuikSync settings so that it is not necessary to run the QuikSync program. When your disc is full, you will want to date the full QuikSync disc. Insert a new disc for QuikSync to use and click OK in the dialog box. WARNING: QuikSync does not remember the current revision numbering across discs. For example, if the file My File.doc was up to revision five (My File (5).doc) when your disc was filled, QuikSync will save the next revision to your new disc as My File (1).doc. It is very important that you date your QuikSync discs so that you can find revisions by date. |
Restoring your filesBecause QuikSync does not compress your files, there is no complicated retrieval process. Simply double click on the files stored on your backup disc to open them or copy the files back to your hard drive (using Windows Explorer). |
