Q I created a document in Word with the font set to 12-point Times New Roman. I then saved it as a .txt file to a floppy disk. But when I opened it the next day, the font had changed to 10 points. No matter what I do to the document, it always reverts to 10-point type when I open it. Can you please help?

A When you save a document as a text file in any version of Word, all formatting information is lost, as the programs warn you. When you reopen the text file later, Word uses the default font to display the document. In your case, the default font is Times New Roman in 10-point size. The solution: save your documents in normal Word format, rather than as text files. That way, you'll preserve all your formatting, including font name and size.
