My mouse or trackball isn't working with my laptop computer (which has an internal pointing device)
If you have an external mouse or trackball connected to your laptop computer and it isn't working, try the following:
- Change the system settings on your laptop computer to have the system automatically detect the external pointing device before the internal pointing device.
- If you have a serial-mouse-port-compatible pointing device, use the adapter to connect your pointing device to a serial port on your computer. The label on the bottom of your pointing device indicates the type of pointing device that
you have.
- If you do not change the system settings or cannot use a PS/2-to-serial adapter, then disable the laptop's built-in pointing device before you use the external pointing device. See the manual for your laptop computer to find out how to
disable the built-in pointing device.
