Installation


This chapter describes the Macintosh system requirements necessary to install MacComCenter Plus, outlines the MacComCenter Plus installation process and describes how to remove MacComCenter Plus from your Macintosh.


Minimum System Requirements

To use MacComCenter Plus on your Macintosh computer, you must have the following minimum system requirements:


Installation

To install MacComCenter Plus on your hard drive, follow these steps.

  1. Insert the MacComCenter Plus CD-ROM in your CD-ROM drive. Open the MacComCenter™ Plus v3 folder, and then open the MacComCenter™ Plus Installer folder. You should now see the MacComCenter™ Plus v3 installer icon as shown below:

  1. Double click on the MacComCenter™ Plus v3 installer icon. The following dialog box will appear.

  1. Select the port to which your modem is attached. Ensure that your fax/modem is powered on and connected to the port specified.

    If you cannot connect and power up your fax/modem during installation, you can specify your fax/modem after installation.

Note: To install the voice features of MacComCenter Plus, the installer must be able to access the modem during installation.

  1. After you have made your selections, click on Install. To exit without installing the software, click on Quit.
  2. Once the Installer is finished, it will have placed the MacComCenter files in the following folders:

  1. After installation is complete, you will be prompted to restart your Macintosh. This step will initialize all files which the Installer copied to your system.

  1. After your Macintosh has been restarted, open the MacComCenter v3 folder and double-click on the ReadMe! icon. This file contains important information and any last minute changes that may not have made it into this manual.
  2. Remove the MacComCenter Plus CD-ROM from the drive and put it in a safe place.


MacComCenter Plus Components

MacComCenter Plus consists of six main components. These components are the MessageCenter application, the MCC Terminal application, the Cover Page Editor, the Voice Script Editor, the Registration Wizard and the Telephony Control application. A brief description of these components is given below:

[MessageCenter] The MessageCenter application provides access to the voice, fax and data mailboxes, the phone book and the MacComCenter Plus log.
[MCC Terminal] The MCC Terminal application provides access to various data communications activities. You can send and receive files to/from remote computer systems and even automate your connections.
[Cover Page Editor] The Cover Page Editor lets you create and edit cover pages to give your faxes that personal touch which ensures that your faxes are noticed.
[Voice Script Editor] The Voice Script Editor allows you to personalize and automate the voice mail functions of MacComCenter Plus.
[Registration Wizard] The Registration Wizard lets you register your copy of MacComCenter Plus. Registration Helps to ensure that your are provided with the best support possible.
[Telephony Control] The Telephony Control application displays the status of incoming or outgoing calls, enables Speakerphone access on Voice modems, provides automatic dialing and Phonebook access and displays the Caller ID log.
[Telephony Control] The Quick Fax is simple utility that allows you to send a quick note to one or more individuals.
[Telephony Control] The Quick Page is simple utility that allows you to send a message to a pager.


Registering MacComCenter Plus

After you have installed MacComCenter Plus the Registration Wizard application will be available in the MacComCenter Plus folder. Double-click on this icon to register your copy of MacComCenter Plus electronically. Fill out the information in the resulting dialog boxes. When you are finished entering your information press Register Now. The Electronic Registration number will be dialed and your copy of MacComCenter Plus will be registered! [Registration]


Removing MacComCenter Plus

If for some reason you desire to remove MacComCenter Plus from your hard drive, perform the following steps:

  1. Insert the MacComCenter Plus CD-ROM in your CD-ROM drive. Open the MacComCenter™ Plus v3 folder, and then open the MacComCenter™ Plus Installer folder. You should now see the MacComCenter™ Plus v3 installer icon as shown below:

  1. Double click on the MacComCenter™ Plus v3 installer icon. The following dialog box will appear.

  1. Click on Remove to have the Installer automatically remove MacComCenter Plus from your hard drive. After removal is complete, press Quit to exit.
