We Can Introduce Your Business to the Czech Market
About Computerworld Czech edition and
their activities
Miroslav Fribert
If you asked people working in the Czech IT industry,
how to get informed about the local IT market, I believe
that most of them would recommend to you Computerworld Czech
edition. This fact is probably caused by two general
reasons:
Computerworld is historically the first computer
publication established after 1989 and that is why everybody
(even reading a competitive magazine today) knows it very
well.
It has a "newspaper" image that immediately gives the idea
of the hottest news inside even though people might see
Computerworld for the first time. Of course, the newspaper
not only looks a like hot-news magazine, but also contains
hot information.
From this point we may claim Computerworld to be the
only computer newspaper in the Czech and Slovak Republic and
in fact it is one of only two computer weeklies in the
region. The priority of Computerworld is providing
up-to-date news touching information and computer
technologies from both the local market and "the rest of the
world" (through IDG News Service).
What is inside
Being aware of fast IT development Computerworld has
changed its face many times during the several years of its
existence. The most important change was made last year when
the newspaper left the software-hardware-communication
structure and created new, more flexible columns, these
reflects modern trends in information technologies:
- News
- the hottest and most important information worldwide with a focus on local market activities.
- Business
- a supplement of the News column focusing more on business and marketing aspects of the industry.
- Mobile Office
- information from the area of mobile computing including notebooks, operators, pagers, PDAs, GSM technology etc.
- Office
- articles and stories generally dealing with office equipment, e.g. desktops, peripherals and office software.
- Information Systems
- focused entirely on complex systems for middle and large enterprises
- Tests
- tests of hardware (mainly PCs, peripherals, notebooks) and software (office software, applications)
- Applications
- information about system software, application software, LANs, WANs etc.
- Internet
- describes the possibilities as well as the richness of the Internet world and WWW pages; interesting addresses and Internet news.
- Computer Entertainment
- the part of Computerworld which follows new trends in the computer entertainment industry (games, edutainment, infotainment).
- Schools
- follows the penetration of computer technology into all types of schools in the Czech Republic with all the consequences in the area of education.
- People around Computers
- watching various humans' fates as well as their everyday problems in the world of technology.
- Topic of the Week
- providing more in depth information in a certain area, which is in the spotlight at that time.
The position on the media market
22 000 readers (according to recent figures) buy
Computerworld every week, approximately 13 500 of them are
subscribers. The rest of the circulation is sold on News
Agent Stands. It is suspected, that those who read the
newspaper every week are more than 22 000, because the
Computerworld is also delivered to industrial corporations,
where definitely more than one person regularly reads the
magazine. Dynamics of the readers' growth is maybe much more
important: thanks to a new marketing strategy, Computerworld
has gained 10 % of new subscribers in the last few months.
Thus, both a high quantity of common users and
important industrial decision-makers are influenced by
information stated inside Czech Computerworld. These factors
as well as historical aspects has resulted in the highest
marketshare among computer and professional publications. In
1995 Computerworld held 27 % of the Czech IT paper-media
market - in terms of advertising value.
Other activities
Besides its editorial work, Computerworld provides many
other activities. One of these are special issues dedicated
to various events. For example during the last year
Computerworld readers received a special issue devoted to
the five-years anniversary of the newspaper as well as two
special issues presenting - in advance - interesting
expositions at Invex Computer '95 fair.
In 1995 Computerworld established a new tradition as
a exclusive organizer of Computerworld Cup volleyball
competition. The participants of the competition are teams
consisting of key Czech IT companies' representatives.
Preparations for the second year of the competition are now
under way.
For the year 1995, CW also made a milestone in the
field of market research and CD-publication. In the first
case Computerworld became the first institution to collect
the Top 50 Czech IT companies, which was called
Computerworld 50. And at the end of the year CW began to
issue special CD-ROM titles focusing on various computer
technology topics.
