AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic for Windows ******************************************* Copyright © 1996-2005 H+BEDV Datentechnik GmbH. All rights reserved. News **** DOS Commandline Scanner AVE32.EXE discontinued We would like to inform you that with the release of the program version 6.33 in December 2005 the DOS commandline scanner AVE32.EXE will be officially discontinued. It will then be no longer available as a separate product or as part of the AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic for Windows. We decided to take this step because the number of DOS users is rapidly decreasing and because there have been a number of problems on and off in the past with the non-intended use of the AVE32.EXE in Windows 9x systems. From the version 6.33 on only the commandline scanner AVNT.EXE under its new name AVCMD.EXE will be available. If you should refer to the AVE32.EXE in scripts, batch-files and so on, we recommend to adjust these accordingly. For users who want to detect and remove boot sector viruses under DOS we will provide in due time a boot sector tool which can be downloaded from our website. Optimize Update Scheduling Being up-to-date is the best protection against viruses and malware. Therefore AntiVir products offer the customer the possibility to plan and execute updates automatically using the scheduler. Many users use this feature and perform updates on the hour, on the half hour or at every quarter of an hour. However, it has been proven that updates at other more differing times are often very much faster and therefore also cheaper. You should take advantage of this fact and plan your updates accordingly. System Requirements ******************* - Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT, Windows 2000 or Windows XP - Approx. 14 MB free memory - Approx. 15 MB free disk space Considerably more space may be required temporarily! Installation ************ To install the application please start the relevant application (SETUP.EXE or AVWINSFX.EXE ) and follow the instructions. Further information ******************* With version 6.26 we changed the communication protocol between the AntiVir Guard Control Program (red umbrella) and the AntiVir Guard service to TCP/IP under Windows NT, 2000 and XP. Please note that the Control Program communicates only with the local system at 127.0.0.1 (localhost) and NOT with the Internet. If you have a Personal Firewall like Kerio, Outpost, ZoneAlarm or Norton Internet Security installed, this tool might issue a warning message regarding a connection request of AVGNT.EXE (connection request to port 18350) and an 'act as server' request of AVGUARD.EXE to the same port. Please make sure that your firewall in is 'learning mode' and that you allow this actions of AntiVir. It might be also a good idea to select the option 'remember this answer and don't ask me again'. If problems occur with the display of the interface in the main window AntiVir for Windows under Windows NT (transparent background), the update file 50COMUPD.EXE of Microsoft must be started. This file can be found on the Internet under: http://download.microsoft.com/download/platformsdk/ Comctl32/5.80.2614.3600/W9XNT4/EN-US/50comupd.exe If you have any problems ************************ If you have problems please try first to solve them using the integrated help system and the user manual.
