ThumbsPlus 6.0 has many
new features. We've categorized them below.
-
Improved error reporting
and duplicate handling when copying and moving folders.
-
Fixed the problem
where searching by keywords that did not exist in the database would return
all files.
-
We added several
new categories to Edit | Find by Query - Restrict search to: current
disk, local drives only, network drives only, removable drives only.
-
Added a File History
(File | View Recent) and a toolbar button to quickly open any of
the last 32 files viewed in ThumbsPlus.
-
Added an option to
select files by their file attributes (read-only, system, etc.) and by whether
they are tagged.
-
Added thumbnail decorations
to show read-only and tagged files.
-
Added Count
and Clear All buttons to each tab in Edit | Find by Query.
Count will provide a count of results that match the current query.
Clear All will clear all tabs.
-
Added the ability
to retain the original file dates when quick processing files (Image
| Quick Process). Similarly, added a batch step that will set the destination
files to the original files' dates and times.
-
Added statistics
showing how many files were copied, renamed, skipped or deleted when copying
and moving files.
-
Added an entry field
in the folder tree that can be used to enter a specific path directly. Also,
there is a drop-down that lists the history of paths in alphabetical order.
- Added tabs for each
major location category to the location bar (above the folder tree). I also
added a "Parent folder" button.
-
Improved handling
of print schemes so that ThumbsPlus remembers the last scheme used and notices
changes to it, and fixed a bug that could occur when changing printers or
schemes.
-
Added the ability
to convert and resize images in the Web Page Wizard (Image | Web Page
Wizard). This avoids having to batch process files before building web
pages. The wizard also shows the number of files selected and the number
of pages that will be generated. There is now a "Finish" button
on each page of the wizard to quickly bypass the remaining pages.
-
On most browsers,
web page links to Java pop-up windows now show the "hand" cursor
when passing over them.
-
If you create or
edit your own image web page template (.tptp file), you can add {{Comments}}
to the image pages themselves. This will use the same comments from the
index pages.
-
Added a warning if
you try to preview or build web pages with no files available to process.
-
Added the ability
to convert, resize and zip images in File | Send to... This also
shows the number of files selected, the original size, the attachment size,
and the encoded attachment size.
-
Added the option
to generate pages for each image in the Web Page Wizard.
-
Added a Preview option
to the Web Page Wizard.
-
Made a separate web
page wizard item for the page title.
-
Added the ability
to open auto-sized Javascript pop-up windows from generated web pages.
-
A new About (splash)
screen, which chooses from random background images.
-
The license codes
have changed for version six, and now provide for incremental multi-user
license counts (instead of just 5-user, 10-user, etc.)
-
Program update will
now use HTTP GET rather than POST, improving compatibility with firewalls.
-
The ThumbsPlus screen
saver now works with version 6.
-
Added list of saved
info sets to right-click info tab menu for quick picking.
-
To prevent excessive
memory or CPU use, you can now limit the number of concurrently running
threads (Options | Preferences | Advanced). When more than this number
of background tasks are started, the later ones will queue up and wait for
earlier ones to finish. The background task icons have also been updated.
-
Modified the installer
to ask how you want ThumbsPlus to store the database and preferences on
Windows XP, 2000, and NT. This offers the options to:
-
Install like
prior versions
-
Share a database
and preferences between all users.
-
Share the database,
but maintain separate preferences for each user.
-
Let each user
have a separate database (and preferences).
-
Install for
the currently-logged in user only.
-
ThumbsPlus now uses
ANSI delimiters for database objects in non-Access databases (and uses braces
in Access databases). This avoids conflicts with reserved words in some
databases, such as Oracle.
-
Improved error reporting
when files cannot be moved, copied or deleted.
-
Added an option to
remember Zip passwords (Options | Preferences | Disks & Folders).
If you select this option, they are saved in the Thumbs.Ini file.
-
Added an "Edit
Using" option "Assocation(Edit)" in Options | Preferences
| File Types to open files using the Windows "Edit" method
rather than the associated "Open" method. This can be used,
for example, to change whether .html files are opened in the default application
(usually a browser), or in the currently-configured web page editor.
-
Added a selection
for the default file type for saving images pasted, scanned, or opened
from a format that ThumbsPlus can't save (Options | Preferences | File
Types).
-
Added support for
multi-byte character sets in the English version. (ThumbsPlus is not a Unicode
application, so your system will have to be set to the right language. You'll
also need to select appropriate fonts.) This works for file and folder names,
annotations, keywords, user fields, and everything else I could think to
test.
-
Added an option so
that wheel-scrolling in the thumbnail view only moves by one row (otherwise
the current mouse settings are used).
-
Made the path history
(forward/back and location drop-down) separate for each database.
-
ThumbsPlus no longer
watches for changes in folders on removable devices; this was preventing
ejection.
-
Added the following
DDE commands:
- Maximum thumbnail size
has been increased to 600 x 600.
- Files that were not
loaded at full bit-depth (i.e., 16 or 48-bit TIFF files) and files not loaded
at full resolution (i.e., resampled for the slide show) will now produce a
warning when saving that the full information was not loaded.
- Improved the Windows
Still Image (STI) support for auto-starting T+ when scanning or plugging in
a camera.
- Added an "Apply"
button to Options | Preferences, Options | Viewing and Options
| File Loading.
- Limited the annotation
database entry field to the maximum number of allowed characters (4095).
- When an image editing
dialog is invoked during the slide show, T+ will now show the cursor until
it is dismissed.
- Improved file date/time
handling when extracting from ZIP files.
- Improved error reporting
for TWAIN scanning, and made each available TWAIN source available directly
on the menu, rather than having to "Select Source."
-
The shortcut keys
available for toolbar buttons are now shown on the pop-up hints.
-
Non-file shortcuts
no longer show in the thumbnail view.
-
Added the ability
to watch sub-folders as well in Tree | Watch Folders, and added a
separate timer for rescanning folders located on a network. (Network folders
aren't watched for changes, since Windows doesn't report them; but they
will now be scanned at the frequency requested.)
-
Corrected the generation
of the 3x3x2 palette in Image | Color Depth.
-
ThumbsPlus now correctly
reports the color depth of images with more than 24 bits per pixel.
-
Added an option (Options
| Viewing | Other) for ThumbsPlus to build the Next Image/Previous Image
file list when a file is opened in ThumbsPlus by association (i.e., from
Explorer).
-
When in galleries,
found lists, or showing child folders, Edit | Select by Mask will
now match anything in the folder name as well as the file name.
-
There is now an option
that you can set manually in the .TDO file that will copy each image to
the clipboard as it displays during the slide show. In the [SlideShow] section,
add a line: CopyClipboard=1
