Readiris opens black-and-white, greyscale and color images in the JPEG, Paintbrush (PCX), DCX fax (multipage version of the Paintbrush format), PNG, (compressed) TIFF and Windows bitmap (BMP) format, and opens Adobe Acrobat PDF documents.
Select the disk as input source to open prescanned images. Proceed as usual.
Readiris detects the typical fax resolutions - 100 x 200 dpi (ônormal qualityö), 200 x 200 dpi (ôfine qualityö) and 200 x 400 dpi (ôsuperfine qualityö) - and ôpreprocessesö these images automatically to ensure optimal OCR results.
Tip: right-click images (Context menu) in the Windows Explorer and select the command Recognize or drag them from the Windows Explorer onto the Readiris window or onto the Readiris icon.
Tip: should you have any influence over your correspondents, ask them to send faxes with the ôfineö quality - those faxes have the higher resolution of 200 dpi and will yield better OCR results.
Tip: the option Process as 300 dpi ignores the incorrect resolution contained in the imageÆs file header. (Some image files indicate an erroneous resolution in the file header that perturbs the recognition and ôautoformattingö.) These images will be processed ônormallyö, as if they had a 300 dpi resolution.
