This tab serve for configuration definition for all part of the application. This configuration will be used in wipe process. You can set-up wipe method and possibility to generate report file. Three methods are available by default, the Quick method, the DoD method and Peter Gutmann's method. |

Quick method |
|
|
Quick method is very quick method for wiping files. It can be used with compressed drives. This method is not much secure, because data is overwrited only one time. Overwrite pattern is composite with random numbers. |

|
Standard U.S. DoD method |
|
|
Standard U.S. DoD method is default method for wiping. This method has 7 passes for overwrite data on magnetic storages. Method is based on document of NSA with document number DoD 5220.22-M. |

|
|
Peter Gutmann's method |
|
|
Peter Gutmann's method is very secure and very slow method with 35 transcriptive passes, but this method is very effective for wiping electronic data on magnetic storages. |

|
|
Generate report |
|
|
If this option is selected, the report will be created. The created report contains information about start and finish time and date, list of wiped files/folders and deleted items. |

|
|
Overwrite report file |
|
|
If you select this option, the DataShredder overwrites the report file before start every wipe process. If this option is not selected, the DataShredder appends new report information to existing report file. |

Ask for report file name before wiping |
|
|
Select this option if you wish enter report file name before every wipe process. If this choise is not selected the report file name displayed below is used. |

|
If you want to use predefined report file, you must find it by click to button beside text "Use this report file name:". After click to this button the common file open dialog is opened and you can browse for destination folder and you can type the file name. If you don't type you own extension the "RPT" file extension is attached to file name by default. The same dialog is dislayed when wipe process is started and "Ask for report file name before wiping" choise is enabled. |
