Readme file for lang_upd.exe. Version 1.0 - February 9, 1999 What it does: ============= The first time you translate a Hackman language file, you have a lot of work to do but the work is relatively easy: you just translate the file line by line. The next time (i.e. Hackman has been updated), your task is different: check which lines have been altered and which haven't and then, translate the altered lines. Translating cannot be automated, but the checking process can. And that is what LANG_UPD does. It opens two 'manufacturer supplied' Hackman language files (e.g. the language files english.lng of version 3.1 and 3.2), and then compares all the lines of the old and the new version. Each time both lines are equal, it copies the respective line of YOUR old language file (e.g. german.lng or dutch.lng) to a new file that can be freely named. If both lines are different, the line of the new version will be copied to your new language file and marked with to asterisks (**) at the beginning of the line. All you have to do is load the new language file that has been produced by lang_upd.exe into a word processor (such as notepad) and translate all the lines beginning with "**". That's it. In case the language file should'nt work with the new Hackman version, please check it using checklng.exe. This program can also be downloaded from Hackman's web site. SYNOPIS of lang_upd: ==================== LANG_UPD EnglishOld EnglishNew MyLangOld MyLangNew Example: LANG_UPD English.31 English.32 German.31 German.lng Note: ===== Please make backups of all the files. To be sure not to get confused by different files with equal names, it's recommended that you rename the files - perhaps similar to the example above. Good luck, Zweistein
