INSTALLING COELI - STELLA 2000 ------------------------------ Before you do anything else, place your mouse-pointer over the time readout in your System Tray and make sure your PC's clock is showing today's date. If not, you will need to double click and set it before attempting to install this Coeli product. Have you tried a previous version of Stella? -------------------------------------------- Don't worry! - Unlike most other astronomy programs in the marketplace, Stella always allows you to evaluate the newest release. There is no one-time shut-out in operation here. So please go ahead and install in the confidence that you will not be hindered in your assessment of this copy's enhanced capabilities. However, it is MOST IMPORTANT that you first remove any previous versions of Stella prior to installing a new one. This point cannot be stressed strongly enough. Simply go to Control Panel and select the Add/Remove Programs facility. When the file list appears, choose the item 'Stella 2000' for automatic removal. Once the uninstaller has completed its operation, you are ready to re-install Stella. Windows automatic installation ------------------------------ Your Stella package is installed simply by double clicking on the file SETUP.EXE once you have unzipped the contents of Stella.zip to a temporary folder of your choosing. We recommend the excellent WinZip utility for unpacking Stella's main .zip archive. You can get the latest version of Winzip from http://www.winzip.com If using Winzip, installation is simplicity itself: all you do is double-click on the stella.zip archive and when its contents appear in Winzip's main window, just click the Install button on Winzip's toolbar. From there on the process is completely automatic. If you have not already done so, we would additionally recommend that, prior to running SETUP.EXE, you use Explorer to create a new folder called Astronomy inside the Windows 95 Start Menu folder. Just navigate to Windows\Start Menu and click with the right mouse button on some unoccupied space in Explorer's right-hand window. You'll see a popup menu, one of whose options will be |New|. Select |Folder| from the submenu, and name it 'Astronomy' or some other appropriate title. After setup, you will be able to manually move the shortcut named Stella 2000 into this new folder for a tidier and more compact Start menu. Tip: when in doubt about the Win95 Explorer's file-listing, just press [F5] to refresh its display. Very often, an item you thought wasn't there will magically appear! NB. THE SETUP UTILITY LEAVES ALL PREVIOUSLY INSTALLED FILES OF THE SAME NAME INTACT, SO WITHOUT FIRST REMOVING THE LAST INSTALLATION, A NEW COPY OF THE PACKAGE CANNOT BE INSTALLED. Removal of the package ---------------------- Stella may be uninstalled at any time simply by opening Control Panel from the Settings entry in your Start Menu, and double- clicking on the item Add/Remove Programs. You will be shown a list of programs currently installed on your system, from which you should select the item 'Stella 2000' for automatic removal. If you encounter a serious installation problem, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
