Configuring an Infrared Port for DirectIR
Although recent versions of Windows include an IrDA stack that
provides compatibility with many different infrared hardware
types, the Nokia 6100 range of phones is not compatible with IrDA
communication via the Windows drivers. This means that full
infrared support using LogoManager cannot be guaranteed.
However, many users will still be able to configure their IR
ports to work with their Nokia, but this normally requires the
removal of the IrDA Infrared drivers.
- Generic IR ports: these are the most
common and include ports often found in desktop PCs and
many laptops or on motherboards that support IrDA
headers. If you have an older version of Windows, then
you may already have a generic device configured.
They appear to the system as COM ports - if you have a
generic IR port, LogoManager must be able to communicate
directly with that port via a windows communications port
driver, not the IR driver. If you have a
recent version of Windows, or have installed the Infrared
drivers, the infrared device must be removed and replaced
with a communications port driver. Please refer to http://www.nokiainfo.f2s.com
for instructions on how to install a generic IR port in Windows.
- Dongles: dongles are devices such as the
Tekram 210B or Actisys 220L that plug into an existing 9
pin COM port.
If you have such a device, and if that device is listed as supported in LogoManager's
DirectIR settings, then there may be no
need to permanently remove the Windows IR drivers (though this is
recommended).
However you will need to disable infrared communication
in the control panel and/or in device manager. Restarting
the machine when switching methods is also necessary.
- PCI network devices: these are less
common, but are installed on some laptops.
These devices can not be accessed as COM ports, and are
thus not compatible with LogoManager's DirectIR mode.
Note 1: when configuring LogoManager you must select the
physical COM port to which the device is connected, not the
virtual IR ports listed in device manager.
Note 2: the 8810, 8210 and 8850 can only communicate in DirectIR
mode when in 2 player snake mode.
