Sambar Server Documentation

Document Manager
Pro Server Only

Overview
The Sambar Server Pro includes a Document Manager interface which allow the server administrator (or, if WebDAV is enabled, any user) to remotely maintain the content of the server. From a web browse, the Document Manager interfaces allow:

  • Create/delete/update a server file within the Documents Directory
  • Create/delete a directory within the Documents Directory
  • Upload "most recently changed" files to another server via FTP, preserving the directory structure
  • Query all documents in a "directory tree" for one or more terms.
  • Version control of files (if WebDAV is enabled)

Below is a sample of the Document Manager browser interface. Clicking on the icon to the left of the file displays the file in your browser; clicking on the folder icon changes to the selected directory.

Important: The interface displayed below illustrates the Content Versioning functionality enabled when WebDAV is enabled. This interface is available from the /sysuser/docmgr/ forms. To restrict usage to this interface and prevent possible abuse, make sure to set your admin account password and secure the System Administrator IP in the config/config.ini to those computers which you will use to access the server with. For added security, you should change the System Administrator account to a user other than admin. Finally, when WebDAV is enabled, user accounts have access to these same forms. To modify content, users must have READWRITE FTP priviledges on the directory (from the config/passwd file). Further per-user access controls can be enforced via security.ini or .htaccess policies.

Tutorial

Filename

Clicking on the filename itself takes you to the pages and/or shows you the file.

Get

Displays the page content. you the file.

Edit

Displays a text-editable version of the raw HTML code or ASCII text.

ieEdit

WYSIWIG editory. This link should only be displayed, and only works with IE 5.0 or later. You must use one of the options in the menu to be able to save the file contents. This feature is still being developed.

Update

This feature allows you to save the pages to your computer and work on it at home. You can use Update to upload changes and overwrite changes on the server. This is the ideal usage for most folks. It gives you the leisure to work off-line with your favorite editor and then put the new page on the site when your ready. Hint: Be careful to use the same directory structure. In other words, if your site has an images directory, you should also have an images directory on your computer in the same relative path to the page on the site (so images will be displayed correctly when working off line).
Popular editors (which you may already have installed) include: Frontpage Express from Microsoft, Composer from Netscape, or AOL's free editor from AOL Press.
One final option worth mentioning is editing the HTML code directly (the same option you get with the Edit option). A good way to teach yourself HTML is to go into the "View HTML" option to see what the code of your favirite site looks like.

Rename

This option allows you to rename the file; you may wish to backup your existing page before uploading a new one.

Delete

This option deletes the page completely.

Mail

The mail link allows you to mail the item to yourself or another user.
