At the beginning of total solar eclipse (the so-called second contact) the eye needs time
to adapt to the profoundly modified light conditions. Light effects, such as the
Bailey's beads and the red shining chromosphere, last for a very short period and
it is the photograph that gives you a chance to fully appreciate the phenomena.
