Diamond Ring

One second, perhaps, remains to the total eclipse beginning. Now the moment in which it is possible to see so-called diamond ring comes. The diamond ring is a narrow crescent of shining solar photosphere so thin that it is possible to look at it without any eye protection with no risk of eyes damage. The diamond ring telescope view is impressive. It really looks like the necklace of precious stones glittering in dazzling sunshine. The image, you are lookig at, is the result of complicated mathematical processing of the scanned image taken on Fujicolor Superia 800 film. The processing removed all image degrading optical effects caused by the diamond ring extreme contrast in comparison to dark surroundings. But even this image is not the same that human eyes can see in the telescope eyepiece. Even the the best nowadays films are not able to manage the enormous contrast between dazzling photosphere (diamond ring) and subtile corona. The only solution is to use more images taken later for improving the corona display. Of course, it needs some mathematics and a lot of computer work. Finally it makes possible to create image very similar to the telescope view.
