VisualAge for Java, Enterprise Edition, provides a collaborative team development environment based on a shared repository. The repository is a source control mechanism that allows you to track changes made to program elements. You can choose to have your own repository on your local client or to share a repository on a remote server.
Select the Local option if you do not plan to work in a team development environment. When you select this option, a repository will be stored at x:\ibmvjava\ide\repository on your machine, where x:\ibmvjava is the drive and directory on which you installed IBM VisualAge for Java, Version 3.0, Early Adopters Environment for the Java 2 platform, Standard Edition V1.2. Only people working on your machine will have access to this repository. After installation, you can switch between your local repository and a remote, shared repository.
Select the Server option if you are working in a team development environment where team members connect to a shared repository on a server. If you select this option, you will be prompted for the name of the server and for the directory and file name of the repository file. Your team administrator will be able to provide you with the necessary details.
Attention team administrators: For information on installing the EMSRV server, see the readme.txt file on the server CD. For information on starting and administering the server, refer to the \srvdoc\emsrv623.htm file provided on the server CD.
