This option can be used to speed up loading times of a page by removing excess HTML formatting, long HTML tags and converts escaped characters to shorter values. Although the effect is not often obvious, the page should load slightly faster.

Many HTML editors will automatically format your text, often resulting in spaces in a file, but "Compress Document" can remove this often irritating feature. There is an added bonus in that you code becomes more difficult to copy.
