Othello v1.0 (c)1997 by FE-1, Data Station This is a classic Othello clone game, that me and my Students have developed in the classroom for educational reasons. I have designed the bitmaps and provided them to the class on a disk. Then we designed and programmed the whole project in two lessons. **** INSTALLATION **** Simply put OTHELLO.EXE into a directory. **** UNINSTALL **** Delete OTHELLO.EXE. The program does not write in Windows system directory or in registry, or anywhere in your disks. **** HELP **** Purpose : The purpose of the game is to win your opponent, who can be either a friend or the computer. How to : Place your spheres (white or black, depending on who plays first; white always does) on the board. You can place a sphere on an empty tile, only if in any of the directions (N, E, W, S, NE, SE, NW, SW) there are consecutive opponent's spheres and then a sphere you own. The program helps you with a cross mouse cursor if the move is possible. If you make a succesful move then you aquirre every opponent tile between the tile you played and tiles you own in any of the 8 directions. **** KEYBOARD **** Left-Mouse button, Right-Mouse button : Click on an empty tile to place your sphere. Right-Mouse button : Click on the left side of the window to open the popup menu of the program. **** MENU COMMANDS **** Animation Speed : How fast the drawing between moves will be held. Human vs Human, Human vs Computer, Computer vs Human, Computer vs Computer : the different games that you can play. The Comp vs Comp is a very nice demo. The first player always plays white, the other plays black of course. White Computer Level, Black Computer Level : the intelligence level of the computer if he plays white of black. This way you can test the intelligence of the program by setting White to Beginner and Black to Pro, and putting the two Computer Players to compete. About : Need you more? **** CREDITS **** Eight people, struggled their minds to create this pretty game. Kostas Symeonidis, the teacher and the students: Nikos Kolovos John Kotziampasis Kostas Kourakis Andreas Oikonomou Billy Papanikolaou Harris Parlapanis Lefteris Tsonidis We've had a great time doing this. Brain storming was especially funny. We wrote this program at the end of the school year, just to find out how many things we have learned in Borland Delphi 2.0. Andreas has implemented some very good intelligence levels in his own version, written before this program in C++. We were planning to include them in this game, but we didn't because we didn't have time. Perhaps a future version will have stronger opponents. I remember when Billy first played against the worst computer level and lost! His next game was a tie! :-) This program is dedicated to Nikos Kolovos, who left us in the middle of the school year. He's moved to Germany to study Dentistry. Good Luck Nick! **** FREE REGISTRATION **** This program is FREE! You can use it, until the End of the World, copy it and distribute it FREELY to your friends, as long as you don't modify the executable and accompanying files (including the one you now read), neither charge any money for them.
